Bed-Stuy Will Soon Be Eatin Good in the Neighborhood

Dsc00217 HOME PAGE
Out here on Fulton Street in Bed-Stuy, the wait for a genuine full-service casual sit-down restaurant seemed interminable. Announcements about a forthcoming Applebee's kept coming, but the wait for the day when the restaurant would actually open seemed like it would never end. Well Bed-Stuy, the wait is almost truly over. The long-anticipated Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar at Bedford Stuyvesant's Restoration Plaza (1368 Fulton Street, Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn) will officially have its public grand opening on Wednesday, February 22, 2006. Let's hope that the success of Applebee's will convince other restauranteurs to set up their kitchens in Bed-Stuy and give this community the choices and variety it deserves.

What's going on at Restoration Plaza?

Well, after an extended silence, we're back.
So there's been a lot of construction going on at Restoration Plaza lately. The long-awaited renovations to Restoration Plaza's West Plaza space are proceeding quickly and we have the pictures to prove it. The old false facade fronting Fulton Street at Marcy Avenue started coming down on January 19th. Here are a series of pictures to show progress on the wall's demolition. Pretty soon, Restoration Plaza will be a more accessible open space that is more visible from Fulton Street.

Restoration Plaza, the civic and commercial center of Bedford Stuyvesant that looms large over Fulton Street, is about to get a fresh new look.  Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, which owns the city-block sized complex, recently announced that it is about to undertake Phase 1 of an extensive renovation and revitalization to the Fulton Street-facing West Plaza in the complex.  The corporation says the project is intended to greatly expand visual and pedestrian access to this pioneering circa-1970's hub of commercial, cultural and educational life in Bedford Stuyvesant.
