Hours:
Monday- Friday: 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Originally housed in nearby St. Mary’s Hospital since 1982, Thriftway Pharmacy was forced to relocate when that hospital closed. Wanting to remain in the Bed-Stuy area to service its existing customers, Thriftway was excited to open its doors at the present Nostrand Avenue location on December 7, 2005.

During the move, Thriftway was able to keep most of its customers and doctors due to the aid of dedicated employees such as Miriam who is the Pharmacy Manager and who has been working for the company for the past twenty-five years. She supervised the transition process and set up a post at another Thriftway location so as to not disrupt service to regular customers prior to the move.

At Thriftway of Bedford-Stuyvesant you’ll find a plethora of both prescription and over-the-counter medication and supplies, as well as other items such as greeting cards, school supplies, baby supplies, and electronics (i.e. telephone, CD players, clippers etc.). Excellent customer service is a paramount concern for the staff. Thriftway’s employees approach their clients as if they are helping a member of their own family. When an elderly customer walks through the door he or she is treated as a grandparent to the employee. Going the extra mile to explain products to a customer no matter how long it takes is the sort of service and patience that can be found from all of the employees at Thriftway.

A large part of Thriftway’s clientele is composed of the elderly, or patients with cancer, HIV or hepatitis. To better cater to the urgent needs of these customers, the pharmacy has specific drugs which they ensure are always in stock, while other pharmacies may not do this due to the high cost. If Thriftway should happen to not have a product in stock, an order will be placed for next day delivery.

Thriftway offers a free prescription pickup and medication delivery service. And if English is not your first language there are employees on staff that are fluent in Spanish and Haitian Creole and they have also have access to Russian and Italian interpreters.
