Grand Opening: "Bushbaby" - Fulton Street's Beautiful New Coffee House
Opening on Saturday, November 19, 2005, Bushbaby Coffee & Teahouse, located at 1197 Fulton Street just west of Bedford Avenue, is the newest addition to the business community in Bed-Stuy, and what a beautiful addition it is. Owned and operated by a Bed-Stuy homeowner and member of the Brownstoners of Bedford Stuyvesant, Bushbaby serves up coffee, tea, "Millie's Homemade Iced Tea" (brewed and bottled on site by the owner's mother) and the best sweet potato cheesecake around in a coffeeshop painted in attractive and inviting earth tones.
More pictures of Bushbaby after the jump.

It's a nice addition to the community.

My boyfriend and I started enjoying coffee here one cold December day and have continued to frequent this spot (on average) twice a week when our schedules permit. It's a cozy alcove that not only brews great coffee, but is oh so inviting. And the staff is second to none. :-)

Bushbaby is the Bed-Stuy find of the summer! I walked in last week to a evening concert, beautiful artwork on the wall and a genial, good looking crowd that was feeling the music. Don't sleep on this place because its going to get hot!

An amazing haven in the heart of the hood. I drove past Bushbaby one Friday night while they were hosting what looked like a poetry reading. Even from outside it struck me so I went back and was not at all mad that I stopped. The food was good the coffe was great and the music was amazing and the owner was absolutely fire. He was enthusiastic and knew what he was talking about. Great place. I'll be back

Bush Baby is a really cool place. You can choose from a variety of exotic types of coffee. You can even buy the coffee beans whole and grind them at home. Try some of their cakes, brownies and cookies. (Some are vegan, mind you!)They also sell food like fish sandwiches, but this is NOT fast food. You may have to wait for your grub, but it not pre-cooked-it is fresh.
But the secret is the atmosphere. It is a cool place to meet friends, listen to CDs from local musicians, and to just sit and chill. I have personally plugged up my bass guitar, (with earphones so not to disturb anyone),and create songs inspired by the vibe and people of the place. They also have open mics and performers swing by.
Go to Bush Baby and expand your life experience.!!!

I agree with what everyone had to say. Bushbaby is cozy, with a pleasant atmoshere and the food and coffee are great! There is only one thing that what make it exceptional: free WiFi. They can limit the usage of computers to 2-seater tables only, or a high counter wrapping around 2 or 3 walls of the place.

Just found BushBaby also featured on a business consulting site (program run by Visa). They have two marketing-related videos about the cafe, pretty interesting.

This is exactly what Bed-Stuy needs. Before even getting into how good the food is, or how great the staff is or how cool the vibe is (and all of those things are very true), the place looks and feels great! Unfortunately, it is surroundeed by rag tag stores, broken down sidewalks and way too many makeshift North African restaurants....but like Sam Cooke said, "Change Gonna Come."

I love this place- I did the artist move from Philly to here 6 months ago and am a loyal BushBaby Customer- their Morrocan Chicken Wrap and homemade Peppermint tea are whats up! They bring the goodness to your tummy! Go Bush Baby!

Bushbaby is a must for anyone who has respect for African American Soul. It is truly a taste of the Motherland, in this other land. I agree with "Brooklyn Boy". The Halal Morrocan Chicken Wrap of spectacular, and the Sunday brunch is authentic southern cuisine. Hmmm, I can smell the rich roasted coffee, and hear the subtle tunes playing in my head. Shalom Tee, you did your thing with that place man.

For someone like me, who sustains from eating any dairy products or animal flesh, our choices are limited, but I still get a sweet tooth just like everyone else.
Long story short, I drove around like a mad woman just to find this spot in the Stuy. I had to get here since I heard about a VEGAN Red Velvet cake. Needless to say that I will be back very soon for another slice as well as to try the other vegan desserts.mmmm mmmm good! The brother's vibe and the cafe's ambiance were quite appealing as well.
We need this in our neighborhood!
Peace & Blessings!

Sharanda, I think you meant "refrains" or "abstains", not sustains.

I have noticed recently that you have switched the authors of two comments. BAASSIK stated that, "...Bush Baby is a really cool place. " Urbaness wrote the review which starts off, "An amazing haven in the heart of the hood."
Thank you.

Word travels far and wide. yeah i am here in michigan just wishing we had something as cool and urban as a bushbaby.
i first heard about bushbaby on visa break through and i continue to wait until i can have my own bushbay experience. keep it up. I want for bushbaby to be on the tip of everybodies tongue, cuz there is something so kick butt about it (atmosphere, design, concept, products and service) and i say all of this without having a personal experience. you did it!!! way to go. tiffs

I was sooooo excited to read of your coffee shop. I have always dream of starting a shop in Gwinnett county Georgia. The small town I reside in is thriving with well diverse cultures that have no coffee cafe to visit near by. I am a single mother with teanagers who love coffee and hot teas also. We have visited many cafe's and shop in georgia. One of our favorite shop closed recently. I am interested in a investment deal or franchise of some sort. I would love to visit your cafe one day....
Thank you for your time Twana Malone

What people dont realise is that green homes and buildings are not only worth more (resale value) but are creating more reveneu as well. Higher occupancy rates paired with higher rental premiums equals more money in VC's pockets.
